ALLT CEITLEIN

See page 190 of the Scottish Guidebook.

Drive down Glen Etive to Dalness House (look out for the big fence around the stately house). Keep going for approximately a mile and a half until the road seems to be heading straight for the Etive. A gap in the trees and a boarded path lead to a view of the Ceitlein across the Etive. To get to the river, ferry across the Etive and walk up the river left of the burn to a bridge. Check the level, then cross over and keep walking until it goes flat at the top of the big slab.

Definitely needs water. Don't do this low, it's not really worth it. The best guage is to look at the burn from across the Etive. If it looks white on the slabby hillside then get changed and go. If not it probably isn't wet enough. You can also check the level at the bridge across the burn mentioned above.

A fantastic set of slides between the more popular Allt a Chaorainn and Allt Mheuran. Although it's a long walk, don't be put off as it is somewhat different to the other tribs. The main rapids are big steep slides, but are quite wide. The first slide is quite intimidating as you can't see the bottom from the top. Just stick left.....

One slides narrows down to about 10ft wide with nasty undercuts on each side and a hole in the middle. Don't get this one wrong in high water! After that the burn narrows down and becomes more pool-drop. One drop has a nasty hole and a lovely rock sticking out at head height, but everything is easily scouted from the bank. Enjoy!
